HPHS CLASS OF 1961 HAS AWARDED SCHOLARSHIPS ANNUALLY
Since the inception of the HPHS Class of 1961 Foundation, scholarships have been awarded annually in the name of our class. We are proud to list the individuals who have received our scholarship. Since 1994, we have awarded approximately $18,000.00. It was our original intention to award one scholarship to a graduating HPHS senior and one to a child of an employee of the HPISD.

The Board of Trustees would like to thank all of our classmates that contributed to the Scholarship Foundation, which has enabled us to help HPHS graduating seniors.
The Class of 1961, has also been active in the HPHS Alumni Association. We have David Bywaters and Frank Wood on the Alumni Association Board. The following message is from the HPHS Alumni Association President, 2006.
It is an honor to have been elected President of the Highland Park High School Alumni Association. The Association serves many functions for us as alumni from assistance in planning reunions to helping maintain the academic excellence and traditions of HPHS. Of approximately 17,000 living and locatable alumni, over 2,000 are members of the Alumni Association.
Our Class is well represented on the Highland Park Alumni Association Board. Frank Wood is starting his fifth year as a member. Susan Luterman and Donna Small are our Class Reps to the Association and Susan is involved in the two main events hosted by the HPHS Alumni Association, the Golden Scots Reunion and the Distinguished Alumni Awards.
This year's Golden Scots event had over 675 attendees. We hope for a similar turnout for the Distinguished Alumni Awards. Both events are a lot of fun and our class will be invited, as the featured class, to the Golden Scots luncheon upon the celebration of our 50th.

Martin Samuelsohn
Martin Samuelsohn was born on July 3, 1915 in Rochester, New York. He graduated DeWitt Clinton High School in the Bronx, 1932, CCNY, 1936 and SMU, Dedman School of Law, 1941. He opened "Marty's Liquors" on Oak Lawn in 1943 and later sold it but it retained the name: "Marty's" He has endowed scholarships at his high school, De Witt Clinton, 3 at SMU, Dedman School of Law, and the "Susan Candy Luterman Scholarship" at Highland Park High. He has given generously to the HP middle school, the Class of 1961 Scholarship Fund and now he has endowed the HPHS1961 web site in memory of Richard Quick, who he greatly admired. He believes firmly in education and higher education as the foundation of our society and would encourage all to get as much education as possible. He is Susan Candy Luterman's uncle.
Unfortunately, after a valiant fight with cancer, Uncle Marty passed away on February 16, 2010. He was 94. He made a valuable contribution to SMU, Dedman School of Law and Highland Park High School and the Class of 1961 in scholarship.
He will be missed by all.
